Hi there, I just wanted to share an experience I came across. A Canadian citizen I know had a similar situation with a layover in Istanbul, and they were able to leave the airport without needing a visa. Since Canada is a visa-exempt country for Turkey, they didn’t need to apply for an eVisa for their short visit. As long as your stay is within the allowed time for visa-exempt visitors, you should be good to go.

To pass through immigration, they were required to have a valid Turkey visa to enter the country before catching their next flight.
