Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Ba

Dear Consul, I hope this message finds you well. Please allow me to begin by expressing my deep respect for the Republic of Namibia and for the remarkable history of its people. My name is Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Ba, and I am currently a student at Karabük University in Türkiye. I have a strong academic interest in African history, collective memory, and the transmission of historical narratives to younger generations across the continent. Over the past few years, I have noticed that in West Africa, much of the history of certain regions of our continent remains relatively unknown to the general public. Many young people are not familiar with the history of Southern Africa, even though it is essential to understanding the broader historical experience of Africa as a whole. It is with this perspective that I am currently working on a book project aimed at introducing West African readers to several important chapters of Namibian history. In particular, I would like to address two themes that I believe are of great historical significance: the genocide committed against the Herero and Nama peoples in the early twentieth century, and the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Himba people, which represent an extraordinary human and cultural legacy. My goal is simple but meaningful: to contribute, in a modest way, to bringing different regions of Africa closer together through a better understanding of their histories, struggles, and cultural identities. I firmly believe that when Africans learn more about the stories of other peoples across the continent, it strengthens mutual respect, solidarity, and a shared sense of historical connection. In this regard, I would be deeply honored if the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Istanbul could consider offering intellectual or documentary support for this project. Any guidance toward reliable historical sources, official documentation, or even a brief institutional message that could be included in the book would represent a highly valuable contribution to the credibility and quality of this work. I would also like to emphasize that my intention is to approach these subjects with the utmost respect for the history and the memory of the communities concerned. This project is primarily educational and aims to help introduce Namibia’s rich historical heritage to a West African audience that often has limited exposure to it. Thank you very much for taking the time to consider my request. Regardless of the outcome, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the important work you do in representing your country and promoting its history and culture. Please feel free to contact me if you require any additional information regarding this project. I would be delighted to provide further details. Yours sincerely, Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Ba Student – Karabük University Karabük, Türkiye Email: [email protected]
